My New York City Marathon - Team Teal Fundraising Page

Our NYC Marathon - Running for Pamela Joy

From Israel: Mom was an incredible woman, who was selfless even until the very end of her time on this earth. Ovarian cancer is a sinister form. It hides behind all-too-common symptoms, and it enjoys less awareness than other forms. Because of its presentation, ovarian cancer often goes unnoticed until late, leaving its victims to fight a stacked battle. Mom was undaunted by the odds and fought for five years. She was uncompromising in her battle, refusing to let it keep her from playing with her grandchildren, watching their games, or even watching Alvarado soccer games on Hudl. She worked diligently for the students of Alvarado ISD throughout her fight, vowing to do so quietly lest anyone try to take it easy on her. She was a fighter the likes of which most never knew because she fought ever so quietly. We are all without excuse when compared to the struggle she endured. I am forever grateful that I am her son, grateful for the time I had with her during this life, and ever hopeful for the future when I will get to see Mom once again. I run every race in teal in honor of her. I consider it the privilege of a lifetime to get to bring awareness to this cancer by running with Team Teal in the NYC Marathon in her honor.

Please help me support National Ovarian Cancer Coalition by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance National Ovarian Cancer Coalition's great cause! Additionally, you can ask me how you can get involved too.

Together, we can make a difference!

From Micah: Running for my mom is a true honor. I am very excited to have the chance to participate in the NYC Marathon as a part of Team Teal. My mom was diagnosed with Stage IV Ovarian Cancer in 2012 and began a tremendous fight. She fought for five years. Throughout her battle, she always wanted to be a part of something that raised Ovarian Cancer awareness and she strongly encouraged me to find a way to make a difference. I am extremely grateful that I have this opportunity!

What could make this more special? I get to run and train alongside my brother, Israel. Israel and I will be raising awareness together, which we both know would make our mom smile.

I am grateful for the example my mom set for me. My mom once asked me how I could be so brave...I don't know how anyone could have been braver than her. If I am considered brave, then I know, it all came from her!
