Black Health Matters!
Thank you to my given and chosen families, near and far, who convinced me on my 28th birthday of the power of love to overcome hate. June 7 was a day full of beautiful surprises in a week full of ugly reminders. In lieu of gifts this year, I'm asking everyone in my networks to please consider donating to my fund. My target is $1,000 raised.
Racial disparities exist everywhere, not just as they pertain to police brutality. On this note, I've decided to run the Marine Corps Marathon this year on behalf of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Black women are 1.3x more likely to die from ovarian cancer than their white counterparts.
My maternal grandmother Tsige Hiwot was the kindest and strongest woman I'll ever know -- she too passed from this particularly deadly disease. The 26.2 miles will celebrate her life and honor the tradition of distance running in our homeland of Ethiopia.
Please help me support the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition by making a contribution to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your family and friends. Every dollar I raise will advance National Ovarian Cancer Coalition's great cause! Additionally, you can ask me how you can get involved too. Together, we can make a difference!
