Thank you for visiting. This cause is very dear to me, and I'd appreciate all the support I can get!
We lost Sam's sister, Jane Harris, on March 11, 2019 after she fought a valiant battle against Ovarian Cancer for five and a half years. She was a gifted artist, teacher, animal lover, wife, aunt, godmother, sister, and friend.
When Jane was first diagnosed in 2013, I ran a 5K for NOCC to show my support. Aside from chasing my kids around the playground, I hadn't run in over six years, and I have never really been a "runner" - but it was an important cause and I was glad to do it!
The email with an opportunity to run the NYC Marathon for NOCC came just 5 days before Jane passed, and I didn't think twice about applying for the spot. I always thought that finishing the NYC Marathon would be cool - but an ENORMOUS challenge. I started training almost immediately (because lets face it - I needed to) and I will admit - I'm freaking out a little. I know it will be hard. VERY hard.
But so is Ovarian Cancer. National Ovarian Cancer Coalition strives to save lives by fighting tirelessly to prevent and cure Ovarian Cancer, and to improve the quality of life for survivors. Over 22,000 women in the USA are diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer annually, and over 14,000 die from it each year. There is no early detection test and the symptoms are subtle, so it is most often diagnosed in the later stages when the five year survival rate is extremely low.
I will run the NYC Marathon on November 3rd.
And I WILL finish.
I will finish to support NOCC in their endeavors,
For those who are fighting this battle now,
For those who have lost loved ones to Ovarian Cancer,
For Jane's friends,
For Kenton, Jane's husband of almost 30 years,
For my husband Sam and his family,
For my children...
and for Jane.
Please consider supporting me and this cause.
Together we can make a real difference!
P.S. IMPORTANT: Jane's name will be on me (or my shirt, leggings etc) as I cross the finish line on November 3rd.
If you have a friend or family member impacted by Ovarian Cancer, please list their name in your donation "message" and I will include them as well.
