Thank you for visiting. This cause is very dear to me, and I'll appreciate all the support I can get!
In 2018 my Aunt Kathy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Her positivity and resilience over the last few months has been inspiring to her whole family. Since then, she has been on the road to recovery and is kicking cancers ass!
While we are eternally grateful for her early detection, we recognize she is among a small minority, 19%, who catch the cancer in time to have a fighting chance.
Shockingly, there is no effective screening test for ovarian cancer. A pap test does NOT check for ovarian cancer!
Ovarian Cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the United States and is the fifth leading cause of cancer among U.S. women. The symptoms of Ovarian Cancer are often vague and subtle, making it difficult to diagnose.
While there is no effective screening test for Ovarian Cancer, there are detection tests for when patients are at high risk or have early symptoms.
Until we have better early detection tools, all women should be educated about the disease so they can achieve early diagnosis and successful treatment. When ovarian cancer is detected and treated early on, the five-year survival rate is greater than 92%.
In November I will be running my first marathon with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) in support of my Aunt Kathy, women who are fighting and women who have fought bravely. Ovarian cancer does not discriminate, help us to raise awareness to protect the women in our lives.
